Assam Govt To Transfer Case of Recently Arrested Terror Suspects To NIA: CM Sarma

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has stated that he wants to transfer the case of terror suspects who were arrested recently to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Notably, last month, six suspected terrorists having links with an Al-Qaeda network in Bangladesh were nabbed in Assam's Barpeta district.

When reporters, on Saturday, asked about the same, Sarma replied that it has been established during the probe that it's an all India network and is supported by foreign soil.

"We want to transfer the case to the NIA. During the probe we found it is an all India network and is supported via foreign soil. We cannot approach Interpol without the Home Ministry," TimesNow quoted Sarma saying.

Commenting on the arrest of these suspected terrorists, Barpeta SP Amitava Sinha asserted that they all are having links with the 'Al-Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS).

All of them were apprehended after getting inputs from a jihadi who was arrested on March 4. Notably, all of them were natives of Barpeta.

''They were having links with Mohammed Suman alias Saiful Islam alias Harun Rashid, a member of AQIS,'' the SP added.

The Assam Police had arrested five persons, including a Bangladeshi national on March 4 this year for alleged links with a suspected terror group of Ansarul Islam, based in Bangladesh with affiliation to the AQIS.
